Remember being brought here (circa 1958) by my teachers from St Godric's RC School, in the City. to be taught how to swim. We were all lined up along the side of the pool and pushed in by the instructor! I have been very wary of water ever since and still cannot swim.

Rob,

I've just re-visited the site for quite some considerable time and it's not only grown but is also looks extremely professional, etc., even when compared to the sites of many household names - it must have taken an 'eternity' to construct!

Regards,
Shaun.

Thanks for the kind words James. This photograph has done well for me in the past ... and alll out of a college assignment 2 years back. Another image from the same series won me the Practical Photography / Goodyear "Roadside Dramas" competition netting £500 and a set of Goodyear tyres. I just need to replicate the same sort of success with some more recent images :-)

Hi Rob,

I'm sorry it has taken me ages to reply to your kind comments on my blog with regard to the Shot Up North Awards (and thanks for the compliments on my work and the design of my site - very much appreciated).

I visited the Special Edition prints when they were on display in Manchester and also the main Shot Up North exhibition at the prestigious Lowry Hotel. There was a great turnout for Opening Night.

I am really pleased there is some kind of showcase for Northern Photographers and they were printed and hung beautifully. However I also agree with your comment on the fact that picking whose work to show is a highly subjective thing.

There is sure to be images which inexplicably triumph over others left in the reject pile. Ultimately, I guess someone has to do the deciding if you only have a limited space within which to display or print the work. At least the decision jury seems to change each year so there is room for new opinions next time.

Well done for getting voted into the Top 50 ... it is a really original and memorable image. Do you know is the exhibition coming your way soon? If you get a chance to view the work and you write a review let me know and I can feature a link from my blog if you are OK with that?
